IRISAN DUMPSITE

August 27, 2011. Saturday night. My friend told me that a couple of people died from a landslide in Irisan dumpsite. It’s not actually a landslide, it’s more of like a garbage slide. August 28, 2011. Sunday morning. I woke up early and decided to go to Irisan but the rain and the strong wind stopped me from going. My friends in Irisan advised me not to go because danger is still around the corner. So I waited…

August 30, 2011. Tuesday morning. I finally made to Irisan dumpsite but it was zero visibility because of the fog. I stayed for three hours but nothing happened and it was still raining hard that day. August 31, 2011. Wednesday morning. Finally, the sky is clear and it looks like the sun is about to shine. I finally made to IRISAN DUMPSITE!

 

THE ARRIVAL:  this is where it all began. I’ve never seen so much garbage in my whole life. nahulog yung kabundok na basura mula Irisan pababa ng Asin road.

THE HOUSE ON THE RIGHT:  almost hit by the garbage slide. sa tabi ng bahay nato nakatirik and bahay ng maglolola na namatay. but the house is not there anymore.

GROUND ZERO:

they said that this part of the mountain has a lot of banana trees and they were right…

THE SEARCH CONTINUES. I joined some of the locals in search for the old woman who is still missing.

…the locals said that if I go down the mountain I will reach Asin road where some of the houses were buried from the pile of garbage. it wasn’t an easy trek.

GOING DOWN…

I FINALLY MADE IT TO ASIN ROAD. WHERE DUMP TRUCKS FALL IN LINE TO CARRY THESE TONS OF GARBAGE.

ive never seen so much garbage in my entire life. it was indeed a life changing experience. later that morning they were able to recover the old womans body. locals said that their were a total of six bodies recovered so far…three little children and their grandma and two grown ups who happens to be brothers and sisters.
